How this is regulated in Germany
Rechtsanwalt is a protected title. Lawyers are admitted by a regional Rechtsanwaltskammer, with the Bundesrechtsanwaltskammer as the federal body, so verification is done at the regional chamber.
German companies are recorded in the Handelsregister, the commercial register maintained by the local registry courts.
What to check before you engage a firm
- Confirm the individual, not just the firm, is admitted to practise and holds a current practising certificate.
- Ask whether they can represent you in court in that jurisdiction. In several markets, advisory rights and rights of audience are different licences.
