Choosing Lawyers in Portugal

Lawyers draft and review the documents that bind a company: constitutional documents, shareholder and founder agreements, commercial contracts, employment terms, and the filings that change ownership or control.

Corpy lists 1 firm offering lawyers in Portugal. Each listing is compiled from the firm's own published information, and Corpy does not take a commission on introductions.

How this is regulated in Portugal

Lawyers must be registered with the Ordem dos Advogados to practise and hold a cedula profissional, which is publicly searchable.

Portuguese companies are recorded in the Registo Comercial, operated by the Instituto dos Registos e do Notariado.

What to check before you engage a firm

  • Confirm the individual, not just the firm, is admitted to practise and holds a current practising certificate.
  • Ask whether they can represent you in court in that jurisdiction. In several markets, advisory rights and rights of audience are different licences.
  • For cross-border work, ask which law governs the documents they will draft and where disputes would be heard.
