Choosing Lawyers in Portugal
Lawyers in Portugal must be registered with the Ordem dos Advogados and hold a cédula profissional, which is publicly searchable. Only a registered advogado can represent you before the courts and, importantly for many newcomers, before the immigration authority — a common reason foreigners engage a Portuguese lawyer.
Confirm the individual's cédula, and match the practice area (immigration and golden-visa work, real estate, corporate and tax are distinct). For a plain company setup an ASAE-registered formation agent is cheaper; a lawyer is for genuine legal representation.
