Choosing Formation Agents in Portugal

Formation agents incorporate the company for you: reserving the name, preparing constitutional documents, dealing with the registry and, in many jurisdictions, providing the registered address and local contact person the law requires.

Corpy lists 3 firms offering formation agents in Portugal. Each listing is compiled from the firm's own published information, and Corpy does not take a commission on introductions.

How this is regulated in Portugal

Providers of company and trust services must register for anti-money-laundering purposes with ASAE under Law No. 83/2017. This is an AML registration rather than a competence licence.

Portuguese companies are recorded in the Registo Comercial, operated by the Instituto dos Registos e do Notariado.

What to check before you engage a firm

  • Ask what happens after incorporation. The registry filing is the easy part; the ongoing annual obligations are where cost and risk sit.
  • Get the total first-year cost in writing, including registry fees, registered address, and any mandatory local officer or agent.
  • Confirm you will hold the company documents and registry credentials directly, rather than only through the agent.
