Choosing Accountants in Hong Kong
Accountants handle statutory bookkeeping, annual accounts, payroll and the filings your company owes its registry and tax authority. Some also sign statutory audits, which is a separate and more tightly controlled activity in most jurisdictions.
Corpy lists 3 firms offering accountants in Hong Kong. Each listing is compiled from the firm's own published information, and Corpy does not take a commission on introductions.
How this is regulated in Hong Kong
Licensing moved to the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council when the current regime commenced in October 2022. The AFRC issues practising certificates and registers practice units, while the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants retains the qualification and standard setting.
Hong Kong companies are recorded with the Companies Registry.
What to check before you engage a firm
- Ask whether they are licensed to sign a statutory audit, or only to prepare accounts. These are usually different credentials.
- Check they have handled companies owned from abroad, since non-resident ownership changes the reporting and often the banking requirements.
- Agree in writing who files what, and by when. Missed statutory deadlines carry penalties that fall on the company, not the adviser.
