Choosing Tax Advisors in Hong Kong
There is no government licence to give tax advice in Hong Kong, so the title alone carries no status. The credentials to look for are the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong's Chartered Tax Adviser designation, or — very common — a CPA practising certificate.
Hong Kong's appeal is its territorial system: profits sourced outside Hong Kong can fall outside profits tax, but the source rules are technical and the Inland Revenue Department scrutinises offshore claims. A good adviser is candid about whether your profits genuinely qualify rather than promising an offshore exemption up front.
Regulator: No government licence to advise; TIHK Chartered Tax Adviser; many hold a CPA certificate. Official source. Checked 19 July 2026.
