Choosing Accountants in UAE (Dubai)

Two things changed what an accountant does in the UAE: VAT (2018) and federal corporate tax (9% on profits over AED 375,000, from June 2023), both administered by the Federal Tax Authority. Bookkeeping is no longer optional housekeeping — it feeds real filings with deadlines.

The credential that is actually licensed is the auditor: statutory audits (which many free zones require annually) must be signed by an auditor registered with the Ministry of Economy. A general accountant is not separately licensed, so confirm audit registration if you need a signed audit, and check the firm has handled companies in your jurisdiction (mainland, your specific free zone, or DIFC/ADGM), since reporting differs.

Regulator: Auditors licensed federally by the Ministry of Economy; corporate tax and VAT under the Federal Tax Authority. Official source. Checked 19 July 2026.
