Forming a UK company is cheap and fast at Companies House, so the real question is who handles it and what comes after. A formation agent must be supervised for anti-money-laundering purposes, in most cases by HMRC, and firms filing on your behalf are increasingly Companies House Authorised Corporate Service Providers (ACSPs) under the new identity-verification regime. Those are the credentials to look for.
Compare on the after-formation obligations, not the headline setup fee: the annual confirmation statement, annual accounts, and (if you register for them) VAT and PAYE. For a non-UK-resident founder, check the package genuinely includes a usable registered office and director's service address.
