Every UK company must have a registered office that is an "appropriate address" under the current Companies House rules — one where a document delivered there would be expected to reach a person acting for the company, and where delivery can be acknowledged. A pure PO box no longer suffices, which is why compliant virtual-office providers matter.
The service is not licensed, so verify the address meets the appropriate-address test, that mail (including HMRC and Companies House notices) is forwarded reliably, and — for AML reasons — expect the provider to verify your identity. A director's service address is a separate product from the registered office.
